An Invitation
Some say that we are not from here.
They say that we are wayfarers merely passing through...
Traveling in precious but foreign lands.
Others say that indeed we are from here... and from somewhere else.
Regardless, every soul is in motion.
Every soul is on a journey, a pilgrimage.
Every soul, no matter how afraid, how disconnected, how steeped in the 'mundane' she seems to be,
is on a great journey Home.
In the days of our ancient ancestors,
this journey of deep transformative movement,
of subtle messages, synchronicities and of special receptivity of the heart,
was tightly woven into a beautiful and terrifying marriage
with the actual physical landscape - through the stories and songs, through culture...
through the people's living and breathing experience.
The external physical landscape, including the sky above,
was not separate from the landscape of each individual body or community of bodies.
Although, as modern people, our lives are less intimately connected to the earth and its culture, we are still 100% completely dependent upon her for the moment to moment sustenance and gifts that keep us alive and constantly renewing.
*
However, without this living, breathing culture of pilgrimage,
without the ancient wisdom-initiates and the architectures
of somewhat intact song-roads,
it is difficult for many of us to experience
that deeply profound and sacred inner movement,
that terrifying and life-affirming intimate surrender to something
invisible, illogical, and all-pervasive...
while at the same time, being held within the womb of the
constantly-being-sung-into-life landscape that surrounds us, that IS us.
But, we do still have the movement, meaning and landscape of sound...
And we have our longing.
This sound pilgrimage is an invitation to an inner journey,
a journey away from the surface of our lives,
a journey to those ancient places in our bones
who can extract life-giving meaning out of pure sound,
who can feast on the natural decay of our lives, converting other into self,
and birth anew the livingness that fuels our lives, relationships, and the journey itself.
For those who are willing to apprentice themselves to traversing their depths - though the maps and guides are often veiled and weathered -
the mystery of sound can unlock vast inner territories, unleash special bliss,
and uncover gentle guidance that secretly and powerfully affects the human heart.
Peace be with you and with all of your wanderings -
Eth-phatah!!
